New library update

GRANT THOROLD LIBRARY OPENS A NEW EXCITING GREEN AND SUSTAINABLE CHAPTER

June 1st marked the opening of the new Grant Thorold Library; a new chapter was opened for the residents of the East Marsh as construction work was finally come to an end.

Local company, Clark Construction, began working on the site in Grant Thorold Park in September and their hard work has resulted in the construction of a wonderful new library, car parking facilities and landscaping works.

Councillor Steve Hocknell who was portfolio holder for culture, leisure and healthier communities, when the building work commenced said: that he was very about the development which will provide a new, modern hub for residents.

Steve said: “The library will provide a facility for the entire community. It’s not just about being able to borrow a book; this library will be a home to many community events and an information centre for all.“The whole community will be very proud of the new library. The previous library was the third busiest branch library in North East Lincolnshire and the added space and features will only attract more visitors.

The main library building has been constructed using state of the art techniques. It includes a ‘living wall’ housing various species of plants to create a building that blends into its surroundings – the first of its kind in the area.

New Chapter is opened!

NEW CHAPTER IS OPENED IN THE HISTORY OF GRANT THOROLD LIBRARY – AND IT’S AMAZING!

A new chapter began yesterday in the history of Grant Thorold Library when the new facility opened to public for the first time. The old library, closed a few weeks back to allow library staff to move equipment and books over to new library which is only a matter yards away; but even so library staff say that well over 80% of the books in the new library are now new stock.

This is a great new building; it is something that the residents can be truly proud of. And after visiting the library yesterday, I am absolutely over the moon. I am now much more confidence that my original comments have actually come true, I originally said before the library was built: “It is going to be fantastic and raise aspirations in the community.

” Indeed, it is fantastic and it is already raising aspirations of our local community. The building incorporates the latest technology for energy conservation, a green wall, new furniture, thousands of new books, fast self service facility and a meeting room for community use.

New library set to open with a splash of colour!

NEW GRANT THOROLD LIBRARY, SET TO OPEN WITH A ‘SPLASH OF COLOUR’

On 3rd August last year, I posted an article this website, titled: “A new chapter is being re-written in the history of Grant Thorold Library: Chapter Two “Thumbs Up”.

I am pleased to say that at long last we are nearing the final chapters, if not the final pages of the transition from the old library to the new library. The old library will close its doors for the final time this coming Sunday, and the new library will open on Tuesday 1st June – this is great news for the residents of the East Marsh and the whole of North East Lincolnshire.

The new library will replace the existing 40-year-old library at the junction of Durban Road and Roberts Street, described as “dilapidated” and which is subsiding.

Even so it has continued to attract more visitors and is the third busiest in the borough - the number of visitors has increased at six per cent per year, with 79,000 visitors last year.
