Looking for housing

Home Choice LincsYou may already be aware of Home Choice Lincs - a new, fairer and faster way of finding a home for rent in Northern Lincolnshire which will be introduced in October 2010.

It is part of a national initiative called Choice Based Lettings that brings local councils and housing associations together to jointly advertise homes available for rent.

The local partnership is made up of North Lincolnshire Council, North East Lincolnshire Council, North Lincolnshire Homes Ltd, Shoreline Housing Partnership Ltd and Longhurst and Havelok Homes, who are all working together to introduce the scheme.

The partnership is responsible for more than 20,000 homes across Northern Lincolnshire, but until now people wanting to rent a home have had to register separately and join a waiting list for each of the housing associations. The Home Choice Lincs scheme will mean that people only have to register once.

It also gives people more choice and information about homes that may be available to them throughout the whole of Northern Lincolnshire offering them better opportunities to find a home that’s right for them.

New recycling collection arrangements

Changes to recycling collections in North East Lincolnshire

Steps are being taken to improve North East Lincolnshire Council’s recycling service which will result in some changes to households’ current collection days.

STEPS are being taken to improve North East Lincolnshire Council’s recycling service which will result in some changes to households’ current collection days.

The new service will see changes being made to the routes taken by the refuse crews, helping to cut costs together with reducing the environmental impact of the service.

Councillor Peter Burgess, portfolio holder for environment and the green agenda, said: “Importantly, the changes to the service will make the collection rounds more efficient whilst maintaining the same level of service. “Not everyone will be affected by the changes and those households whose recycling collection days are changing will receive a letter explaining when they should present their triple boxes and brown bin.”

Residents of North East Lincolnshire are being given three chances to win one of 20 Freshney Place vouchers worth £25 each by completing a questionnaire and giving their opinions about local parks and green spaces.
GreenSTAT is an online database that gives people the opportunity to comment on the quality of their local parks and open spaces and how well they feel they are being managed and maintained.
It also provides the council with feedback about the people that visit them, and how they might be able to improve these vital open spaces.
Councillor Leanor Pidgen, portfolio holder for environment and the green agenda, said: “Parks and open spaces offer a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of today’s built up environment and modern, busy lifestyles.
“By filling in this questionnaire, people can let the council know what they do and don’t like about our local parks. We will act on this, wherever we can, to improve what they offer and ensure that as many people as possible are using these valuable community resources.”
She added: “Even if people have responded to these surveys in previous years, it is important that they fill it in again this year as we still want to hear their views and impressions of the parks.”
To complete the survey and be in with a chance to win one of the vouchers, visit https://secureserver.greenstat.org.uk/selectvisitortype.asp?authorityid=108 to complete the survey.
